What Nurses and Physicians Need to Know

As demand for non-surgical cosmetic procedures continues to grow across Canada (soon to surpass $20B CAD), so does the need for qualified professionals who can safely and effectively administer Botox injections (among other aesthetic injectables).

Whether you’re a nurse looking to expand your scope of practice, or a physician interested in building an aesthetic medicine practice, Botox training is your entry point into one of the fastest-growing fields in healthcare.

This guide breaks down everything you need to know to get certified — including who’s eligible, what to expect, and how to choose the right training program.

What Is Botox Training?

Botox training is a specialized program for licensed medical professionals (nurses and medical doctors licensed to practice in Canada) that teaches you how to safely and effectively inject neuromodulators (like Botox® and Dysport®) to treat dynamic wrinkles and facial lines.

Training typically includes:

  • Facial anatomy and muscle mapping

  • Product reconstitution and dosing

  • Injection technique and safety protocols

  • Patient assessment and treatment planning

  • Managing complications or adverse reactions

At CAMA, our Basics Neuromodulator Course (for Nurses & Physicians) offers hands-on training with live models, supervised by expert CAMA Faculty instructors across Canada.

Who Is Eligible to Take a Botox Course in Canada?

Botox is a prescription-only medication, which means only licensed medical professionals can administer it. In Canada, eligible practitioners include:

  • Registered Nurses (RNs, LPNs, RPNs)

  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs)

  • Physicians (MDs)

  • Dentists & Naturopaths (depending on provincial scope of practice)

If you’re unsure whether you qualify, check your provincial college’s scope of practice guidelines (nurses can refer to the Canadian Nurses Association — Canada’s national professional voice for nursing).
