What You’ll Learn as a Cosmetic Injector

A high-quality injector course should equip you to:

Analyze facial structure and aesthetic proportions:

A good injector needs to have an eye for harmonizing their patient’s facial structure. To design bespoke treatment plans, injectors must be highly familiar with facial anatomy, facial proportions and symmetry, assessing skin types, and identifying the patient’s cosmetic goals.

Demonstrating a deep understanding of these elements is crucial. When treating a patient, you’ll need to be able to locate  facial muscles, blood vessels, and nerves, in order to avoid complications during injection. Familiarity with facial structure will also allow injectors to suggest appropriate treatment options and injection techniques. Each patient’s face is unique, and as an injector, you’ll want to know how an injectable product might settle, react, and interact with your patient’s facial structure for optimal results.

At CAMA, our certified aesthetics medicine courses are among the leading programs in Canada, and offer hands-on training to help you master your facial analysis skills.

Conduct safe consultations and set realistic expectations:

Before a patient receives treatment, they need to genuinely feel like they are in safe hands. Your expertise as a nurse injector is established with your patient during the consultation phase of treatment, and develops on an ongoing basis through their treatment plan journey.

Understanding your patient’s aesthetic goals is vital to conducting a safe consultation. Our training program will walk you through techniques to establish safety and skill early on.

Some common techniques include:

  • asking your patients open-ended questions about their cosmetic goals and lifestyle
  • taking photographs of the patient’s concern areas
  • assessing the patient’s distinct facial structure
  • explaining recommended treatment options, etc.

Our program will guide you through establishing a trusting relationship with your patient, identifying their goals, and offering realistic recommendations.

Master various injection techniques for neuromodulators and fillers:

At CAMA, our students benefit from intensive hands-on experiential injection training. Students, under expert supervision, will inject Botox and dermal fillers for immediate application of the theoretical components in the course. Depending on the specific injector course in which you are enrolled, hands-on Botox injection areas may include the forehead, crow’s feet, glabella, or the lower face (e.g., DAO, masseters, platysmal bands, chin, etc.). Similarly, dermal filler injection areas may include the lips, undereye area, midface (e.g., temples), jawline, etc.

As part of this practical component, our expert instructors will offer specific injection tools and techniques to achieve optimal cosmetic results.

Manage side effects, bruising, and rare complications:

Certified nurse injectors must be well-versed in managing the occasional side-effects or complications resulting from treatment. Depending on the type of treatment and the patient’s unique circumstances, this can range from minor skin irritation or bruising, to infection or over-treatment of a particular muscle. Our training program will enable you to recognize, treat, and manage any side-effects, and rebuild confidence with your patient.

Develop treatment plans tailored to patient needs:

Medical history, facial anatomy, symmetry and proportionality, age, lifestyle choices, budgetary constraints: no two patients are the same. Our students leave our program equipped to confidently develop tailored treatment plans for patients. Our program guides students to listen attentively to understand a patient’s desired aesthetic outcomes, apply their medical knowledge to design a personalized treatment program, and over time, deliver exceptional results.

CAMA’s national programs are customized for Canadian nurses and physicians, ensuring regulatory compliance and real-world readiness in every province we serve.

Advanced Add-Ons: PRP, Biostimulators & Skin Boosters

CAMA’s advanced add-on options supplement the treatment components included in our standard training programs. These supplements include platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, injectable biostimulators, and mesotherapy using skin boosters. Each of these treatments are extremely effective and in high-demand in the aesthetic medicine industry. Our expert instructors will offer didactic and hands-on training so students can confidently add these treatments to their practice

Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can take your skills further with advanced training in:

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma):

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a type of regenerative medicine derived from a patient’s own blood cells. PRP involves drawing a quantity of blood and inserting the vial into a centrifuge. The centrifuge will separate the red blood cells, the platelets, and the plasma, into three distinct parts. The newly-centrifuged plasma is rich in growth factors and platelets, which can promote healing and regeneration of skin and hair. The plasma is then injected back into the patient’s treatment area to stimulate desired treatment outcomes. PRP therapy can be used to rejuvenate skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkling, and fade scarring. It can also be injected into the scalp to promote hair growth, improve hair density and thickness.

Microneedling with PRP or Serums:

Microneedling is a procedure that uses a handheld device with extremely fine-point needles. The device is used to create controlled micro-injuries in the top layer of the skin, and promotes natural regeneration and healing, to result in a glowing, even complexion. Microneedling can also be infused with other products such as PRP or serums to enhance treatment. CAMA’s advanced add-on options offered in supplement to our training programs will ensure you are familiar with the ins-and-outs of microneedling when treating concerns related to the skin and hair.

As part of skin rejuvenation treatments, PRP can be used for facial microneedling. This procedure is often called the “vampire facial,” combining the benefits of collagen-stimulants and platelet-rich plasma into one treatment! The vampire facial stimulates your body to produce naturally-occurring collagen to promote skin elasticity and suppleness. CAMA’s PRP therapy add-on will cover the properties of PRP, and the unique cosmetic benefits of PRP therapy.

Likewise, the microneedling device can be used with serums. Skin-boosting serums (e.g., hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, peptides, etc.) are injected into the micro-punctures created on the surface of the skin, for quick absorption and long-lasting hydration. This add-on supplement will instruct students on different microneedling techniques applied to reach a patient’s desired aesthetic goals.

Sculptra & Radiesse Biostimulation:

Sculptra and Radiesse are injectable biostimulators, often used in the face, hands, jawline, and neck. These products stimulate your body to restore its naturally-occurring collagen and elastin reserves. This, in turn, promotes skin elasticity, restores or prevents volume loss, prevents wrinkling and sagging, and improves skin texture. Both Sculptra and Radiesse deliver long-lasting anti-aging results. Though the results from Radiesse treatments can be immediately noticed, results from Sculptra develop over time.

Sculptra and Radiesse are both injected using a cannula, and the number of vials used will differ depending on the patient’s area of concern. CAMA’s advanced add-on component will equip you to understand the science and benefits of Sculptra and Radiesse, and help you gain confidence in applying proper injection techniques to achieve specific patient goals.

Skin Hydration Boosters and Mesotherapy:

Mesotherapy, also known as a skin-hydration booster treatment, is a non-surgical treatment that fosters skin brightening, firmness, and hydration. Using microneedles, mesotherapy creates micro-punctures in the middle layer of the skin, and delivers to those punctured sites intensely hydrating and plumping ingredients. The nutrient-rich ingredients are quickly absorbed at the dermis-level, and offer glowing, rejuvenated results.

CAMA’s advanced add-on component will instruct you on the properties of mesotherapy cocktails, the cosmetic benefits of mesotherapy, and administering mesotherapy techniques.
